Fans That Give Fandom a Bad Name, Part the Nth: I've said it before and I'll say it again: when did it become so popular for SF/F fans to be smugly anti-Christian - or even-faith-of-any-kind? It's the smugness that gets to me - well, that and the thinly-veiled hostility.

Hm, con-rate at Gallifrey One isn't (currently) being offered for the Sunday night. I suspect that will change but, for the moment, I'm looking at an $80 increase for that evening. I've been advised to just call back in a couple of days and mention the issue - it was probably just the booking clerk being a bit daft.

Meanwhile, if you're feeling brave, dear reader, the hotel is doing an internet special of $99/night for the same weekend - $20 less than the con-rate - but it's a no refunds, no cancellations, be damn sure about this special, so that might be a bit more harrowing than what you're looking for.

I know it's far too early, yet, but I'm thinking about how I might help out with programming at CT, if they want me - space is limited and methinks they'll be up to their eyeballs with ideas, but you know how my mind wanders... I think it might be a good idea to offer a Doctor Who Costuming 210 type panel - something that's goes beyond the basics. Then again, at the other end of the spectrum, maybe something like No-sew Cosplay might go over well, too - discussing sources for already-made items, how to fake your way through some of the more popular costumes and look at what you can do with a glue-gun and some fabric paint. Hm. Hmmm....

If nothing else, I should keep these ideas in mind for Gallifrey. [livejournal.com profile] kproche? [livejournal.com profile] iamradar? Would you want to join in such tomfoolery?

Just out of curiosity, how would you go beyond the basics? Seems kind of like it's "And then you just... make this!" after the basics.

well, I should define my idea of "basics", first - it focuses on thrift store trawling and adapting commercially-made garments.

I think going-beyond-the-basics would get into alterations to patterns for common costumes, dyeing fabrics (including hard-to-dye ones), creating embellishments, that sort of thing.

My idea of cosplay-101 assumes the cosplayer can't/won't sew.
