Agreed, whole-heartedly. It did take me a minute to think about why, if the Doctor could dispatch the Family so easily and so coldly, he hid in the first place. But it hit me that he hid to give them a chance to die on their own rather than be forced into dispatching them as he did. Which is a huge exclamation point on how cold the Doctor can be.
