Torchwood, 2x11 - Adrift
As usual, spoilers abound.
Adrift
So Andy's carrying a torch for Gwen? Hm, that explains a few things - which were probably Plainly Obvious to everyone else. As I've always said, I'm Ms. Oblivious.
Meanwhile, Andy's a perceptive little sod, give him that.
"Weevil hunting with Ianto" - is that what you're calling it now, Jack?
Aww, Nicky Bevan - checking recordings of crowd scenes for Jonah. A little bit corny, but quite human, of course. All a part of that big ball of denial about Jonah being gone.
"Babies, now!" with a glass of wine in her hand. Oh yeah, you're ready, luv. *laughs* And the bit with the toast the next morning - priceless.
So, yeah, this story seems to be rife with, y'know, humans - or, I should say, humane people. Makes a change.
Maybe I'm being a bit cynical but, er, has the notion of the Rift going both ways - leaving and taking things/people - really not occurred to anyone, before? Um. Duh!
So, yeah, maybe Gwen's so-called advantage (her humanity - as posited by Jack, back in S1) might finally, erm, matter?
Interesting, however, that Gwen is quite quick to decide to keep things from Jack as she investigates. Perhaps not total trust going on, hm?
"We help those left behind!" Aw, bless you, Gwen.
...and then that fight between Rhys and Gwen, hard on that scene's heels. Nicely done! "You do it so that people can live their lives and there's nothing more important than that." And once again, Rhys plays the part of much-needed Clue-by-Four.
*and then fangrrl falls off the sofa, laughing at Jack/Ianto madfun* An interestin' choice of interludes between the spatting, there.
Oh lawks. Andy is Everygeek, bless his little (clueless) heart.
Way to burn your bridges with Andy, Gwen. Then again, in addition to any sort of worrying about security, if she really wants to scrape the lad off, it's a step in the right direction...
(on the island, finding everyone taken by the rift) Oh, dear... this isn't going to end well.
(although the irreverent part of me must note that shouty-Gwen is very cute)
...and Gwen hits below the belt re: if you lost someone, wouldn't you want to know. Good - although I totally understand Jack's POV, too.
Jonah and Nicky re-unite. Well, that's a whole big pile of OW.
I like Nicky's reaction "Promise me you won't do this to anyone else." Again, another moment of humanity.... And even though she's had her heart torn out, now she's able to move on.
...and the theme of salvation continues, oh yes - albeit in a highly uncomfortable way.
Afterword: God help me, my inner-magpie couldn't help admiring Gwen's bracelet in that closing scene with Rhys
(I thought I was going to finish out the series tonight, but that ain't happening. Maybe tomorrow, after the weeding and the house-cleaning, oy...)
