Voyage of the Damned

I suppose my DW-fangirl union card is at risk but, honestly, I thought Voyage of the Damned was somewhat awful.

There were some amusing moments, yes, but not enough to save it.

My opinion might have been sweeter had I watched this at the right time and in the right mood - ie, shiftfaced drunk on Christmas afternoon.

(and RTD's running out of London landmarks to threaten, don't you think?)

No. It was awful, not just somewhat.

I agree it wasn't entirely what I thought the hype led me to believe, but it was enjoyable at that time of the year like you said. Although, I did love me some random loving from the Queen to the Doctor :D

Well, one never expects Xmas specials of any kind to be *good*, per se. All one really expects is a serving-up of some treacly sentiment and maybe a few laughs.

I suppose that, technially, VotD provided both, but in a fundamentally unsatisfying way...

Ah well, they can't all be "Time Crash" ;)

I started to write a review listing all the ways it failed as a disaster movie but I depressed myself too much just thinking about it.

*nod* I think what vexed me most (out of so many things) was that it couldn't decide if it was supposed to be a campy Christmas romp, a sci-fi homage to "The Poseidon Adventure" or a rather grim extended-length eps.

I think that about the only thing I enjoyed without reservation was the sight of Tenannt in a tuxedo. Oh, and Kylie Minogue's boots!

A lot of people including me shared your opinion. I did a bah humbug review at the time.

I agree. I initially watched it on YouTube in January, then recently rewatched it on Sci-Fi Channel. It really didn't make any sense. I'm just really looking to move on from it and move into Series Four. I'll probably get used to the new theme music.

You're not a bad DW fangirl, you just have good taste.

This was my review :

And I watched it 3 times since, and it's been increasingly painful each time :/

But I got my squee back with the awesomeness that is series 4 so far.

I've been watching the squee re: S4 and it gladdens my fannish heart, yes it does.

One more week and then I can grab the Brit broadcast version off the 'net with a somewhat clear conscience. ;)

Yeah, but seriously, VOTD really isn't that good even in the version originale.

I saw it with high-spirited company shortly after its UK airing, but even that couldn't redeem it. It started out as entertaining crack and then took a turn for the 'Stenders - trying to be too like real life. WTF. This is a CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. THE FIRST ONE BROKE THE FOURTH WALL. WTF.

('scuse capslock).

Yeah, S4 is looking darn good, but the theme music (Top-Gearized) is beginning to grate for me.
