Updating the BFA reccs

Prompted by a a comment made elsewhere, it occurs to me to do a quick update to my BFA Doctor Who reccs list.

Rather than editing that post - and because I'm in a bit of a tizzy, today - I'm just going to mention the stories released over the past year that I think are worth listening to:

Absolution (Eighth Doctor, Charlie, C'rizz) - by Scott Alan Woodard. If for no other reason than to finish C'rizz's story. My mini-review/reactions

100 (Sixth Doctor, Evelyn) - by several authors. Released to mark BF's 100th classic Doctor story. My thoughts.

The Mind's Eye (Fifth Doctor, Peri, Erimem) - by Colin Brake. A story that manages to be both creepy and whimsical. Quite enjoyable.

The Condemned (Sixth Doctor, Charlie) - by Eddie Robson. A solid story with a few turns that managed to surprise me, particularly how the investigation into the central mystery unfolds and the characterization of those centrally involved with it.

The Dark Husband (Seventh Doctor, Ace, Hex) - by David Quantick. As mentioned here, this one's a heck of an amusing romp, and Hex is growing on me.

Max Warp (Eighth Doctor, Lucie Miller) - by Jonathan Morris. Part of the second series of audios produced for BBC7. This one is a hilarious piss-take of Top Gear, start to finish, and is also worth it for sheer voice porn reasons.

I'm on the fence about The Bride of Peladon by Barnaby Edwards. I enjoyed it, but it's got some very weak spots, too. Pick it up if you're particularly interested in seeing Erimem off the scene, I suppose. Further thoughts

On my own, personal, avoid-avoid-avoid list: fSon of the Dragon,The Girl Who Never Was (which gets more annoying each time I listen to it) and The Wishing Beast. The remaining releases over the past 14 months - such as Frozen Time (which I really liked, at first. Now, not so much...), Valhalla, Exotron and I.D. I can pretty much take or leave.

I'm surprised you didn't like Son of the Dragon. I thought 100 was a massively wasted opportunity, and The Dark Husband was just "meh". The Mind's Eye was incredibly predictable and actually bored me. I'm with you on Max Warp though; a lovely little parody and a fun story to boot. "Lucy Vauxhall-Nova", indeed.

Which just goes to show that folks can have different tastes and still get along. ;)
