Torchwood: Ghost Machine
This episode? Much better story, much better pacing, and I really enjoyed it a lot, despite the annoyingly pithy closing scene between Jack and Gwen. Let's not make these little homilies a habit, okay guys?
Other elements I enjoyed:
Owen - the other shoe is dropping, and the character is getting better for it and, in his way, more likable. Maybe he'll think twice about the alien aphrodisiac/date-rape drug sort of maneuvers, hm? The actor got a chance to show his chops, too, and I appreciated that as I'm not at all familiar with the guy's work, not being in the UK and all.
Ianto - strangely prissy (in terms of voice and delivery, at least) but still luvable. Is he never without food or drink in hand?
Gun pron! I won't apologize for it, as several of my kink buttons got hit during that scene, and so I pretty much went dry-mouthed for the entire thing. Whew.
Jack doesn't sleep? Further proof for the Jack is quite possibly blitheringly insane theory.
Much better incidental music this time, too, I thought. Day One sounded a bit too DW-ish. In fact the eps was a fair whack less DW-ish in general. Maybe the production team has gotten it out of their system, which is good, as the fewer accusations of fanwank that get leveled at the show, the better.
Jack's wound a bit tighter than usual. I can understand that a few of his buttons are getting hit, but I hope he's not going to try to be Mr. Hardass all the time. Mind you, I'm sure a wee bit of that hard-assedness is Jack attempting to compensate for not breaking Rule Two1, despite apparent desires to do so.
I see Cyberwoman is coming up next and, goodness me, doesn't she get chilly in that outfit?
Slightly more in-depth thoughts when I've re-watched the eps and have time to cogitate on things a bit more.
1 - Rule Two is a reference to something I wrote for jack_harkness_: Never sleep with a team-mate*.
* - Unless you're drunk, on shore leave, or you just gotta. But be be prepared to accept the consequences.
