(no subject)

1) Alex convinced me to get my head out of my behind, and I'm watching Planet of the Dead now.

2) I know that her jacket costs something like $600 (I'd look FANTASTIC in that!) but, oh gods, even tho' I've got ten years on her, I'd love to cosplay Christina DeSouza... Although it would mean cutting bangs in my hair. I might even be willing to do that.

The fact that the actress has curves cheers me no end.

Heh.

PS - dammit, Karen Millen no longer offers the jacket. Time to dig out the how-to-sew-leather books. I've got good reference pix, I could probably pull it off. Eventually.

You do realize that that character is essentially Lara Croft, right?

I shrieked that about 30 seconds into the eps, yes.

*grin/shrug* I suppose I should put on my Feminist Pants and be all annoyed about her and stuff but, honestly? I've played the trope before - just in a V:tM larp.

So I'd be struck by lightning if I got snippy about it now.

Besides. I really, really want to make that jacket...

That is a NICE jacket!

I'm having a similar kind of issue trying to track down any kind of useable pattern for a Mountie's red serge coat at the moment and coming up blank on every source I can find. I'm not good enough to make up something from reference photos, unfortunately.

Yeah. It's out of my skill range (and budget!) at the mo', but give me a few months and I could do it.

Hmm. A couple of ideas come to me - dunno if they're any good.

1) Equestrian gear - somewhere, out there, I'm *sure* there are sewing patterns for horse-riding gear, including something like the 'pink' (aka red) jacket that chaps wear when hunting foxes/peasants/journalists - could you modify that to suit?

2) Historical military gear. There's patterns by various entities for the re-creation groups (espec. US historical - maybe a JP Ryan pattern...?). Again, could something from a historical period be adaptable?

Yeah, I've been desperately searching for historical military, but getting patterns is impossible - there are plenty of places that will recreate the historical uniforms at a price, but buying the patterns? Forget it. Unless I'm just missing somewhere and my Google-fu is failing hard.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check 'em out :)

I'll dig up my equestrian pattern links for you tonight. I've got a couple, somewhere.

(Try searching for "dressage jacket" and "sewing pattern" on the same page)

No luck, alas. The coat I'm looking at is based on a British military pattern, and a lot of the sites I've looked at focus very specifically on American patterns. Although the current Marine Corps dress blues are pretty close, finding patterns for them is like pulling teeth out with pliers.

Hm.

Let me put out word to the Brit sewing peeps. This has now become... A CHALLENGE!

Eeee! Thank you :D
