I put the "just how did Jack get the hand" bit down to "Because it's just plain cool for him to have it" and never mind the whyfores. ;)
The damn thing could have SUNG to his Gallifreyan-touched self for all we know. :)
Despite my statement of not needing the whyfores, it won't stop me from making a few of my own, obviously.
