The Doctor Who fan-film viewing fest was great fun.

Things learned:

- There is some great work out there. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] je_smith's high opinion of The Shrodinger Effect, for a start.

- Fan film-makers can be very creative when it comes to working around a lack of resources. Can't build a TARDIS control room? Decorate a set to your own design. Short half a dozen Daleks? Get creative with some Dapol models and home-made miniature sets. Even the incredibly silly The Two Doctors and the Anti Matter Menace had some clever little tricks mixed up with the cheerfully low-budget tongue-in-cheek cheeze.

- As ever, slightly laughable production values are easily forgiven in the light of a good story - just like the original show.

- However, four hours of this kind of content is about all a person can take in one sitting. After that, it all rather starts to blur together.

There's still quite a bit to watch, so I'm hoping to work through it in the next few weeks. I'm particularly keen to finish both Regenesis and Time Rift.

I've lots more to say, but the pollen is eating my brain and I'm utterly out of it. Maybe after a nap...

I wasn't at the convention, myself, but it seems that LunaCon had something terribly wrong with it, prompting [livejournal.com profile] rm to write this: Con Behavior: Clues for Free.

It's a bloody shame that it has to be said but, what she says, I wholeheartedly agree with.

I will admit that it makes me grateful that my regular cons - BayCon, Gallifrey One, etc - seem to be largely free of the bullshit that can push an intelligent, articulate person into a state of white-hot fury...
