For reasons various, I posted a question via my Twitter/FB account, inviting responses from anyone who could be bothered.

Complete the following sentence: SF fannish costuming/cosplay is more than just a bunch of overgrown kids playing dressup because....

Responses so far have ranged from predictable to mildly suprising. For instance:

...there's just too damned much work involved in it!

...a lot of craft skills, hard work, and creativity go into the effort sometimes with national recognition as the reward. Of course a select few such people (arguably including myself) do act like babies when something goes wrong. ;-)

...Because Cos players make the stuff. There is skill there and hard work. I play dress up. I will wear a costume if handed one and told who I'm supposed to be.

What about you lot? Anything to add?

edit: unsurprisingly, my Twitter username is britgeekgrrl

[livejournal.com profile] cmdrsuzdal has reminded me to remind y'all: it's time for FiDi1 Fandom Friday Frolick at the lobby bar of the Hyatt Regency on Market & California, tonight. As before, it'll start some time after 5 and go until we get sick of each other.

I probably won't stick around for too long, meself (I'm still recovering from feeling crappy, yesterday) but I'll probably be there from 6PM to 7:30 or so, 'cos I love y'all so.

Let me know if I should look out for you. The lobby bar is huge, but I suspect we'll be easy to find.

1 - as in, "Fans in the Financial District area" not "Fans of the Financial District area"
