brewsternorth. For some of these questions, I'm going to split my answers into multiple parts. I'm sure you'll cope.
1. When did you start watching?
As soon as my eyes could focus. No, really - Doctor Who was my first memory of TV and, god help me, watching it is one of my earliest memories, full stop.
1a. Why?
'Cos it was shiny and strange and definitely not "Playschool". Also, it was one of the few programs I'd watch with my mother. Ironically, she went right off the show, in the end...
2. What was your first episode?
The first eps that I really, clearly remember was Genesis of the Daleks part one, although that very-first memory was a re-run of some late Jon Pertwee story. I can't remember which one, but I do remember Bessie being in it.
3. Which episodes have you seen?
Oh gods, how am I supposed to remember? Pretty much everything from Robot through The Greatest Show in the Galaxy and almost all of the new series, but my memory is erratic, to say the least. I'm slowly acquiring DVDs and patching the holes, but that's going to be a long-term project.
3a. Favourite?
Classic: City of Death. New: The Impossible Planet (but not necessarily The Satan Pit and oh gods, that was not an easy choice, btw)
4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
Some are, many aren't.
5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
Argh! Why must I choose? I'll have to say the Eighth Doctor, but the Fifth is close behind.
6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
The First, although that's only because I've seen very, very few of his stories, nor have I read many of the BBC novels featuring him.
7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Classic: Romana II. New: Martha Jones (although if I'm allowed to pull from BFA continuity, I'd choose Lucie Miller)
8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
Classic: Mel. New: Adam (if he counts? Failing that, Rose, but only during her superangsty moments and it's not like I've got a lot of choice, here!)
9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
Hell, yes.
9a. If so, which is your favourite?
The Natural History of Fear. If you want one a bit more traditional than that, I'd have to say Creatures of Beauty.
9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
Aha! There we go. Lucie Miller.
10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
Alas, no. Feel free to recommend something, dear reader.
10a. If so, which is your favourite?
n/a.
11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
*eyeballs the to-read pile, warily* Yes, a few.
11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
HAHAHAHA! No.
11b. Which is your favourite?
Of the few I've read? EDA: The Deadstone Memorial by Trevor Baxendale. NA: Space Pirates! by David Stone.
12. Have you read any of the comics?
Very, very few. Like, less than five, although I've got a pile of Eighth Doctor collections to read.
12a. You guessed it - which is your favourite?
None of them really remained in my memory long enough to form an impression.
13. Do you watch any of the spinoffs (e.g. Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures)?
Yes, I've seen most of Torchwood, a couple of SJA eps.
13a. Which is your favourite?
Torchwood
14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
I'd like to see more of SJA, but until it's broadcast over here... I also really want to get back to reading through my fat pile of NAs and EDAs, but time keeps playing tricks on me, ironically enough. My to-read pile is a bit daunting, honestly...
Fandom
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
*looks shifty-eyed* Sometimes.
1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several)!
Not working on anything at the moment.
2. Do you create Doctor Who icons?
No.
2a. Let's see a sample!
n/a.
3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/fanvid/fancomic/fancreation!
I always cheerfully wave the flag for
crabby_lionness. She's fab.
4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
Yes. Gallifrey One and Chicago TARDIS.
5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
Technically... I suppose so, yes.
6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
HAHAHAHAHA! Next question?
7. Are you a fan of Russell T Davies?
Yes.
7a. Steven Moffat?
You betcha.
7b. Paul Cornell?
Oh, mais oui!
8. What say you to Season 6b?
Not a bad idea, really, given the utter lack of anything else to cover the situation. And besides, what's a long-running SF show without a fat whack of fanon?
9. The UNIT dating controversy?
It doesn't keep me awake at night.
10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
Smacks of Paramounticles (the fundamental particle of any plot device, courtesy of Star Trek) but, heck, they had to come up with something.
11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
A lovely idea in theory. Shame it only seems to work in practice one time out of three, if that.
12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
Um... I don't have any. *hangs head in shame*
13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
*looks embarassed* Yes.
14. Have you met any of the actors?
Yes, but I've done all the name-dropping in other entries and so I won't do it again, here.
14a. Traveled to any filming locations?
Not solely because they were DW filming locations, no. But I did allow myself a bit of fannish silliness when I went to the Eiffel Tower for the first time. ;)
15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
Hilarious. And the purists who thought it was needlessly irreverent (really, some of them did) needed to relax.
16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
Yes. To the point that I'm not going to share them in public again. They're very silly, anyways.
17. What's your favourite pairing?
Um, do I have to answer this? As a non-canon thing, I like to think that Sarah and Harry were more than just good chums and never mind what was said in School Reunion... Otherwise, nope, I really can't answer this question with a straight face. Sorry!
18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
Adric/Anything. It comes just a bit too close to pedophilia if you ask me.
