Again, sheerly a reaction post and spoilers abound:
Day In The Death. (aka: all emo-Owen, all the time!)
Oh wait, one minute Jack's all "I'm not giving up on you, Owen" and now Jack's firing him? What a twat! Still, fear makes people do funky shit...
(I'm with the other fans: where can I buy some of those Torchwood themed ziplock baggies? I'll take a gross!)
Aww, blue-and-white-ware at the coffee station! So frightfully British.
And, once again, Owen and Ianto are spatting about Jack and shagging thereto. I ain't budging from my long-held position that Owen is madly, desperately jealous - although of which one, I'm not sure.
Owen's scared of TinTin...? Once again, the characters only seem to get really interesting after they're dead. Bloody hell.
(btw, to the old-school V:tM players, is Owen a forcibly Embraced Caitiff or what?)
Some would argue that Owen's been dead on the inside for quite some time - brief fling with Diane aside, that is (and some might say not even then).
New bachelor pad for Owen, am I right? How very 1980s it is!
Man, that zoned out expression as he's cleaning out the apartment is, um, really freaky. (squee!) But, dude, I'd keep the toothbrush if I were you...
(Oh, and let's add recently-widowed women (Maggie) on to the maudlin-trigger list, although DAMN, that's a pretty awful situation and oh so, so very emo...)
Damn on Owen for calling Tosh on the "date". Not entirely untrue but OW...
He says he's got nothing to give, and can feel nothing but, clearly, he can still feel angry. That's something, fer crissakes. But noooo, he's too busy being emo to notice that...
(grabbing Maggie as if to jump) "Let's get on with it!" - and that's Tinfoil Helmet Moment #437. Then again the whole you think you're suicidal until someone tries to kill you bit is probably one of them universal narrative moments. Y'know, Campbellian or summat...
Poor Owen - just a tool for the team. How long before he gets resentful about that, I wonder?
AHHH! Glove-pron! Evil Twin, are you paying attention?
*ahem*
And you still have compassion, Owen, you little shit. But, as usual, too fuckin' emo to pay attention to that - well, until it's time to try CPR, at least. *sighs*
(although I don't by the "I don't have breath" thing because, duh, Owen can speak, and that requires breath control. Duh.)
And, yay, he finally admits the fear! Poor lamb.
(my god, what an ugly couch he and Tosh are sitting on!)
I really liked the framing sequence with Maggie - very sweet. The show, it seems, will never outgrow its gooey moments...
I might be over-reaching, here, but as I watched Owen talk to Maggie, it occurs to me that there's a salvation theme going on, throughout the season so far. Or is that just me?
Yep, this is definitely the season full of bad emotional triggers for the fangrrl. This is both good and bad. I can't pick one over the other.
PS - you know you've been watching too much Torchwood when you start talking to yourself in a Welsh accent, although maybe that was the ohmigod Welsh cramming I was doing earlier today... I've been falling a bit behind, you see...

Date: 2008-04-11 03:12 pm (UTC)Unfortunately it takes a lot more breath to reinflate lungs than it does to talk, and Owen's got a hole in his lung.
My excuse for talking to my daughters in a Welsh accent is that I'm currently reading them the Dark is Rising series. Torchwood is so useful right now. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

Date: 2008-04-11 05:08 pm (UTC)D'oh! Good point! Silly fangrrl!
Ooh, clever excuse!
Once I get my Rosetta Stone disk back, god only knows what's going to happen. I do know that at one point, my husband swears I was muttering Welsh in my sleep. And then there was the time that Alex swears I woke him up, asked him a very insistent question in Welsh (we later worked out I was asking him if he was okay) and would NOT go back to sleep until he replied. Fortunately, an English reply was apparently acceptable.
How come my unconcious brain is much better at this stuff, huh? ;)
