Torchwood, 2x09 - Something Borrowed

I told myself I'd go to bed after A Day In The Death. Surely, three eps in one sitting is enough. But, noooo. The teaser for Something Borrowed was just too much to resist!
Besides, it'll leave me nicely situated to chew my way through the final four eps, tomorrow.
Something Borrowed
Oh god, the typically awful hen party situation... *wince* May I mention, for the record, that I'm so glad that I had a co-ed, striipper-free "bachelor" party?
Oh lawks. Go to a hen party, wake up preggers. It's a horrible fuckin' stereotype, but I couldn't help laughing at the fact that Gwen doesn't waste any time breaking into the pickles. And "Do not bring my bloody hormones into this!" good for her, on that score, at least.
Ianto shopping for wedding dress luv! EEEEE!
Aw, bless Rhys for wanting to look after Gwen and sodding the money re: canceling the wedding. And bless Gwen for telling him to get stuffed, she wants to marry him today dammit. *smiles*
Can someone please, please, please give me the details of the buttons on Owen's lab coat.
Oh gods, of course the mother's hate each other. I guess there are some tropes writers just can't resist.
Aww, poor emo-Jack - cut off whilst trying to say the right thing.
"Evolution is full of surprises." and "Bananas make me vomit" Yay for Tosh and the quick response...
And, oh my, the wedding as bonkfest ritual remains unchanged...
Hey! Gwen! Tosh doesn't need marriage to validate her existence, dammit! And *thbbt* on you for thinking so!
re: Ianto/Jack tailoring and measuring a man's inseam by his stride... Oh. My. God. Riding the roflcopter! For the record, my grandmother was a master seamstress and based on what I've heard her say, Ianto wasn't far off, honestly...
And yet more Ianto-luv: Jack: "What is it with you? Ever since Owen died, all you've done is agree with him!" Ianto: "I was brought up to never speak ill of the dead - even if they do most of the talking for themselves."
I've been yelping with laughter all the way through this eps - the husband is starting to get annoyed, given the hour...
Costumer girl wants to know where in HELL did Ianto find a corsetted-style dress to fit a 9 month pregnant woman like that - apparently off the rack? Honestly, how ridiculous. Proof that Ianto has apparently inherited his father's tailoring skills, methinks. Oh gods, if that's not fic-fodder, I don't know what is.
My inner-romantic can't help getting all gooey at Gwen's insistence that she's going to marry Rhys today, goddammit.
And the farce continues with Rhys' mother... Love it!
Aw, man, Nariko, it takes a hell of a good figure to pull off a double-knit dress like that. Yow!
And a gun in the bouquet? That's, er... very John Woo.
Bringing Rhys in to save Gwen? Brilliant!
Oooh! Sinister shape-shifting Jack! Bueno! And points to Gwen for her chair-fu! Man, Barrowman must have had fun with the shape-shifter bit (so. very. campy. And shades of the "reavers" from Utopia in DW - all those pointy teeth, I guess) and let's not discuss how Owen felt about filling it/him full of lead. Well, yeah, lets, but after the eps is over...
"I guess we need a bigger gun" - HOLY SHIT! Geeze, do you Torchwood guys have Freudian issues or something? Oh wait, I guess y'all do...
YAY, RHYS! Although one could comment around the definite Freudian implication of going after one's mother with a chainsaw..
Aww, Jack and Gwen dancing... so sweet - only to be topped by Ianto cutting in. ;)
Oh jaysis, who plays "Tainted Love" at their wedding? HAHAHAHA.
"Level 6 Retcon and champagne" Dude! I want that mix! Interesting that Jack offered it to Rhys & Gwen - I wonder if, er, S1 Jack would have forced it down their throats, regardless. I am, however, glad that Gwen and Rhys refused it.
"The wedding fairy"? Of course you are, Ianto.
Oh gods... Jack pulling out those pictures at the end of the eps... that was just too much. *sniffle*
But, gawsh, need some sleep now. Happy to have started catching up, but sleep is vital.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:56 am (UTC)I think there's been a thread on either the TW comm or DW_Cosplay about Owen's buttons. I think about half of them have been figured out. (I don't know if anyone has tried writing into the show to ask...it certainly worked when fangirls were trying to figure out how Ten's trousers zipped!)

Date: 2008-04-11 07:05 am (UTC)It's an indication of the changes going on with the character, I think...
re: Owen's buttons, I'm sure there's a useful website out there, somewhere. I'm just hoping someone will do the work for me. ;)
