Pleasant Surprises.

The BFA Cuddlesome came with Doctor Who Magazine #393, a couple of months ago. I'd ripped it to iTunes and promptly forgot to listen to it. Yay for pleasant surprises on the hard drive!
Eleven minutes into it and the author - Nigel Fairs - cheerfully throws in a local joke which betrays his origins.
The Doctor: "It's not something you'd expect (catches himself) in Brighton"
Angela: (tartly) "Hove."
Naturally, I had to go looking up the author's biography at that point. Sure enough, the lad's from my old hometown, Brighton.
I remember my Father worked in Hove for a couple of years. The place was something like a mile and a half away from our house near Preston Park (the heart of Brighton as far as I was ever concerned) and physically indistinguishable, if you asked me, yet everyone down there was most emphatic about the fact that their neighborhood was part of Hove.
Smalltown opinions - despite it being a city1 of a quarter million or some odd. They don't change.
PS - FWIW, I'm with Turvey, as messed up as he was, on this one...
1 - The city of Brighton and Hove, I might add. I wonder how many backs that put up.
albion_fan? Can you shed any light on that?

That amused me hugely when I listened to that one too...
