Oi, [livejournal.com profile] praedestinatio!

Fab reference pic of The Rani (and the Seventh Doctor)

Blimey, it's vinyl. In fact, I think it's some short of short-nap velveteen with vinyl atop it. Um... how, er... how bloody hard to reproduce, actually, is the sentiment on my mind.

I bet my hairdresser could teach me how to updo my hair like that. Ozone layer? To hell with it... :)

Now, my mad costuming friends, consider the Rani's ensemble and project back about twenty years from that point. Got any suggestions? I can't get past the art-nouveau revival thing of the early/mid 1970s and, oh god, that's so not going to work. This backless dress was under consideration but I don't know if I can pull it off, nor am I sure if it's sufficiently Rani-ish. If you're wondering, the pattern's from 1969, btw.

The reference pic, btw, comes via [livejournal.com profile] honorarydoctor, who has been posting some absolutely awesome costume analyses/how-tos/advice about the Doctor's costumes on [livejournal.com profile] dw_cosplay. I've added them to the communities memories, if you're curious.

[livejournal.com profile] 1ucifer and I were talking about this, 'cause she's a huge Rani fan, and we were thinking given her appearances and what she's worn that you ought to do pants. I know we discussed fabrics and cuts but... I really only remember pants 8D;;

Also I know how to do that hair, but I've only done it on wigs before.

Difficult to be sure but I think that the fabric is a typical 80's cheapo lame(accent here) brocade. You might find it if you plumb the depths of ethnic fabric stores.

Wow- it WAS the 80's, wasn't it.

*nod* I think hitting the row o'sari shops on University Ave in Berkeley might be the way to go.

And sari fabric is pretty cheap!
