Well, drat.

Some rummaging around in the press release archive over at gallifreyone.net has blown my carefully-crafted coping mechanism re: the quality of Cyberwoman. It was no earlier than fifth on the production schedule, as the first four eps shot were Day One, Everything Changes, Ghost Machine and Greeks Bearing Gifts (eps 1, 2, 3 and 8, respectively).

And just to rub salt in the wound, Cyberwoman was directed by James Strong, who I thought did pretty darn well with The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit - although I thought some bits of TSP in particular were a bit overblown, I must admit, if nowhere near as heavy as what I watched last night.

*muttergrumble*

Strong is apparently directing at least two eps this season, and if the other one's a clanger, too, I'll be inclined to consider TIP a fluke. Ah well.

Yes but it had a better "baddie" :)

Ahh yes, same here really, but being self-employed means you don't have a boss looking over your shoulder. :)

I didn't really think it was that claustrophobic - you need smaller rooms/lifts/cupboards to be like that. This was more CSI action than "oh dear we're all trapped". Jack showed his military background though when he acted as leader.

You've got to expect secrets though - after all they are a "secret organisation" known only to the local pizza company - lol. Sounds a bit like my job at times - the pizza company bit anyway. It's got to be expected in a situation like Torchwood that there will be secrets within secrets. They make their living from (at times) not telling the whole truth to people. So, a torchwood member hiding something from the others (especially personal stuff) is about as predictable as finding out a intelligence operative lied to get the information they needed. It does highlight though the Western tendency to be so self-absorbed in your own life you don't realise what's happening to those around you until it's too late.

Actually, the "baddie" in TIP kinda irritated me, mostly because I like things nicely defined and categorized. I'm willing to concede that I'm asking for a bit much in that particular case.

However, I thought it was excellently put together, and the scene where Legion's talking to Toby and telling him to not turn around still freaks me out, despite (honestly) being just a wee bit melodramatic. ;)

Well, the "baddie" I found interesting as they weren't just rehashing old plots or old enemies. Sometimes an element of mystery and intrigue helps with the suspense - but then I can see we view it slightly differently.

Yep but it did have a rather "WWII submarine movie" feel to it. The part where the ship starts sinking and flooding. Regarding the part where Toby gives that look to the camera, it was a good touch. After all it's making the episode remembered isn't it? Well especially since that usericon of it.
