This has been re-posted from Doctorwhoforum.com (formerly Outpost Gallifrey)

As ever, you can visit Gallifrey One's Gallifrey One's website for all the nitty-gritty, too.

Of particular note: there will not be the usual slew of sorta-related actors offering autographs in the dealers' room - there just ain't the space - and there's been some tweaks to the photograph and autograph procedures.

GALLIFREY 2009 STATUS UPDATE

Just a quick status update on where things stand for Gallifrey 2009 on the final day of 2008:

Membership: Today is the deadline for the $60 rate. You can purchase today via PayPal and receive this rate for the convention. Tomorrow it goes up to $65 for the month of January. We close pre-registration on February 1, and at the door the rate will be $70. (You can pay in cash, by check, VISA or MasterCard on site.) Your membership entitles you to participate in the entire convention (except for the sold-out guest brunch on Sunday).

Guests: We have spoken to every guest on our current list of guests (the one on our website) and have reconfirmed with everyone. Most of our guests coming from the UK have already had their air tickets purchased, so we're well on track to see everyone at the convention. One side note: Simon Guerrier was accidentally omitted from the guest list in the last iteration; he's still coming to Gallifrey 2009!

Local Guests: As you may know, it's been a recent tradition at Gallifrey One to have a collection of signing actor guests from the local Los Angeles area. This year we've made the decision not to do so; we're on the same weekend as the Hollywood Autograph Show, for example, and we have an extremely full lineup of programming -- not to mention a COMPLETELY full Dealers Room this year (where they normally sit to sign). We *are* featuring several science programming guests and some local authors, though, some of which are on the guest list already and some who will be added soon.

Programming: This year, as mentioned above, we have an overstocked program... four tracks of programming happening Saturday alone (not including autographs or the annual Saturday afternoon mega-game!) As such, the tentative schedule of events will be available later this weekend, approximately; that schedule may change over the coming weeks, however. Please note that, because of the massive numbers of items we are putting onto our main stage, it is extremely unlikely that ANY panel will be repeated. Guests will appear all days, but not necessarily alone in Q&A sessions; we will have interviews, combinations of guests, and some guests will appear on panels rather than in the main ballroom.

Live Commentaries: As in previous years, our guests from both the new Doctor Who series and Torchwood will be doing live commentaries on selected episodes. Last year we mentioned that this would take place in the main ballroom, but because of a lack of room, it will instead be featured in a program room (not the tiny ones we had last year, but larger rooms that seat around 250-300 people.)

Autographs & Photo Studio: We have doubled the size of our autograph studio to accommodate as many people as possible. Guests will be doing autographs all three days. In addition, on Saturday morning, selected guests will appear in our Photo Studio -- this is an opportunity to have your picture taken with our guests in a relaxed setting. You may bring your own camera, or allow us to take your picture on ours; photos will be uploaded after the convention. (Please note that, due to the amount of work involved, we will not be printing out photos this year for a fee like in previous years.)

Hours of Operation: The convention hours have now been set as follows:
  • Registration Desk: Friday 10am-7pm; Saturday 9am-6pm; Sunday 9am-1pm
  • Main Programming: Friday 12pm-6:30pm; Saturday 10am-6pm; Sunday 10am-6:30pm
  • Dealers Room: Friday 12pm-7pm; Saturday 10am-6pm; Sunday 10am-5pm
  • Art Show: Friday Midday-6pm; Saturday 10am-6pm; Sunday Art Show Auction 2pm
  • Video Room: Friday 12pm-1am; Saturday 9am-1am; Sunday 9am-5pm
  • Friday Evening Programming: 7:30pm-1am (includes Friday Night Gala, Gallifrey's Karaoke Bar, "Just a Minute" Game Show, "Mysterious Theatre 337," Friday Night Adults-Only Panel Programming, Late Night Video)
  • Saturday Evening Programming: 8:30pm-Late (includes The Masquerade of Mandragora, "Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf" Live Show, Valentine's Day Rock Dance, Buffy Sing-a-Long, Late Night Program)

Clearly they've learnt their lesson from G19...

...and they've been careful to maximize the good times while minimizing the potential logistical nightmares. Good on them, I say.

Many things may be said about G1, but "Refusing to learn from past mistakes" is not one of them.

Meanwhile, I kinda wish they'd do some 'premium registration' arrangement (as per Chicago TARDIS) as, by god, I'm willing to pay an extra $100 just to cut the autograph/photograph lines alone - never mind the 'premium seating' faff... But I've been told it'll never happen - oh well...
