In need of - for want of a better term - an emotional security blanket, I threw myself down on the sofa and wrapped myself up in The Doctor1 for most of the afternoon and evening. So far: I bought a copy of Sisters of the Flame (PMG luv!) and then dropped Bad Wolf, The Parting of the Ways and New Earth into the DVD player. Now I've thrown the last disc of S3 (Utopia, etc.) in. Lovely.

It's been... well, a shamefully long time since I've watched any of Chris Ecclestone's Doctor and, once again/as usual, he blew my socks off. So many little things - subtle, I mean - and so utterly fun.

Yep, just what I needed...

1 - not like that, you pervs!

Ah, luvly Chris. Would that he could blow my socks off.

Ahem.

Why should my perversion be shipping you and Chris? Although it *is* winter. Those ears could probably do with a pair of warm thighs.

You are a very, very strange person.

That's probably why I like you so much. :)

(and y'know, I must admit that I've boggled a bit at Ecclestone's ears, myself. But not in a pervy way, although now that you've mentioned it...)

Eccleston was without question one of the very best actors in the role... (me, I rate him and Troughtin as equal best)

Y'know, honestly, I've not watched enough of Troughton to have an opinion of him - I've seen more of Hartnell, which isn't saying much!

Which of Troughton's stories would you recommend?

Definitely The Mind Robber (which is one of my three favourite of all time) and The War Games.

Mind you, before you put too much faith in my taste, do remember I personally think Tennant is the worst Doctor ever...

I'm of the "They all have their plusses and minuses" school of thought when it comes to comparing the Doctors. I have my favorites, yes, but I try to stay out of any conversation involving terms like "best" or "worst" because you know that some sort of spatting is inevitable...

So, you're looking forward to tomorrow's announcement and 2010, I'm guessing? ;)

Oh - yeah (I wanted to like Tennant - he seems like a lovely blake - but his style greated so badly on me that I haven't been able to watch it, meaning I missed the new Master and Donna and a lot more...

Of course, I will loudly concede to one and all that this is a personal thing. Obviously, many many people loved his portrayal.

*nod* As I say, I see plusses and minuses to all of the actors who've tackled the role.

On the good days, I think Tennant's done well. I see aspects of several past Doctors in the characterization and his performance suits the story.

On the bad days, it feels like his performance is phoned-in and (emotionally) predictable - although I place at least some of the blame for that on the one-story-per-eps format. When you've only 50 minutes to do the entire plot, the pacing is going to hit certain marks at certain points, no matter what. Try as we might, a story's pace and plot is going to escalate at a fairly predictable rate...

I quite understand that your opinion is yours and mine and is mine and we might not agree and that's completely alright by me. ;)

I think I need to sit down and watch all of Chris' eps again. I know what you mean about the subtleties... and it's easy to forget them in light of the Bigger!Better!Faster!More! ethos of Tennant. (Which has it's time and place, you know, I'm not dissing Ten.... )

Yeah! Exactly!

Ecclestone can communicate *so* much, just with some subtle tweaks of his expression and body language. Mmm, angry!Doctor...

*ahem* 'scuse me...
