Back Again
Feb. 16th, 2009 05:00 pm(x-posted to my regular journal)
Home from con. I had a nice time, but not as good as this past Chicago TARDIS, rather to my surprise. Well, I should say that some moments were great and others were meh and many of the meh moments were my own damn fault.
High points:
- Watching GDL et al perform a little sketch at the Friday night social. It was hilarious.
- Salvaging the masquerade (more on that on the costuming filter of my regular blog. Short version, Radar and I kicked some serious ass, backstage.)
- Giving Kai Owen one of my My friend learned Welsh and all I got... ribbons (thanks to a discovery of a small horde at the last minute). Squee!
- Hearing that both Roz and
rm had a blast.
- Knowing that the "Torchwood Girls" (you know who you are) had the best weekend of their lives.
- Watching Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf by Toby Hadoake. That alone was worth the price of reg, honestly.
- Generally goofing around with Tadao at various points over the weekend.
- Got some unexpected compliments on the Sybilline Sister costume. That was nice. :)
Low points:
- Missing Kai Owen singing Land of Our Fathers at karaoke. Damn!!
- Losing my temper at the masquerade director (apologies were tended all around, things are fine, now)
- Really missing some of my pals who couldn't make it there, this year. Boo.
- Falling off the stage during the prize-giving at the Masquerade. Yes, really. I wasn't the only person who did it, the bloody stage setup was a menace, in that the backdrop was at the very edge of the risers, not - as they should be - a foot in front of it. They wanted to fit more seats into the ballroom, you see.... However, I have at least learned that I can't die from embarrassment.
Coming out of the con, I've committed to running the masquerade next year - the event is now large enough that it needs its own handler, separate from the director of evening programming. I've promised Ciara Johnson a corset (she's a lovely gal and she flattered me terribly!). I've agreed to volunteer at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund table at WonderCon in two weeks, in return for a comp'd badge. I think that's the big stuff.
I might do a full-on con report, I might not. Right now, I'm pooped.
PS - and the post-con letdown is hiitting me really hard for some reason. So, um, yah, I want to get over that before I post further.
