Have been talking with Shaun, laying down the groundwork for next year's masquerade at Gallifrey while this year is still fresh in our minds.

Larger theater, deeper stage, adequate time for tech to set up and a promise to open the doors early enough so that the show will actually start at 8PM.

Cosplay hall will be coming back, although it'll be comandeered for masque green-room, once again.

Instead of a "Young Fans" category, the kids will have their own "Junior Masquerade" - run just like YF, mind you (they get on the stage first, before the grownups) but with separate judging, prizes to be given at half time. It seems that there are enough competetive parents out there grumbling about wanting some "proper" judging, so... ask and ye shall receive. BTW, if anyone wants to volunteer as the judge for that category, drop me a line explaining why you're particularly suited to judge kiddies in costumes (self made and/or made by their parents) and I'll be in touch.

Mandatory meeting for all masque entrants on Saturday morning, to collect entry forms, music, answer questions, etc.

Tech and performance guidelines will be settled by Thanksgiving and published in various venues - OG, [livejournal.com profile] dw_cosplay, the G1 website, etc - at that time or shortly thereafter.

Let's see how that all plays out in actuality, shall we?

Meanwhile, I'm giving more thought to entering the masque at Chicago TARDIS, although I've no bloody idea with what - Mercy will probably be too expensive. But as the last masque I entered was BayCon '07, I feel the need to keep my hand in...

Speaking of Gally, do you happen to know how I can contact that lovely couple that brought their TARDIS? I'd love to send them a thank you note, they were so sweet.

Also I'd entertain young judging, but we plan on being in the masq next year.

I don't know, but I'll ask Shaun as he will!

And if you're planning to enter the masque, I don't want to tie you up with juggling young-fan judging, too - but I appreciate the thought.

Hey, I know Dori and I are still up for being your wranglers/guards/water people/whatever again. I do recommend radios, though. Maybe some little cheap reliable numbers...UNIT can supply their own, I guess too, since we're somewhat resourceful.

I have no problem getting people to help, either. I seem to be able to just do that. But, I would like to be more involved in the Masquerade, so let me know throughout the year what you need and we can work on it.

Radio reception can suck down there. I'll talk to Shaun about getting you on the house system, but I don't think it'll be necesary, though. I'd like to hear why you do.

And thanks for the offer! I'll start chasing y'all down closer to the event! ;)

I don't think we need it if we have more of a preparation as to what is going on. I just wanted it then to keep in contact with my running around to find people after they've already been found on their own.

Other than that, not needed with ample preparation.

And...

Dori and I are working on that whole unified UNIT look, so I guess that will bring a better ominous control presence to being your door guards and stuff.

In the interest of not letting a herd of drama llamas loose, I will not comment about that... publicly. :)

Fair enough.

In justice, I don't think Gally's masq was ever that big before.

It wasn't, nowhere near - at least, not any time in the past ten years.

I've worked with most of that tech crew before, as has [livejournal.com profile] fairegoddess, on Anime Los Angeles. They can be a bit prickly, but Charlie, Chuck and Scott are generally very solid and reliable if you give them good instructions and paperwork...

...just like any tech crew. We can give you a copy of our registration database and lend you the little printer; they've worked with those forms for the last 4 years of ALA and seem to be happy with them. However (and it's a big however), running masq reg the way we do means sitting at a masquerade table for a lot of time and talking with each entrant when they register, and burning a lot of your Saturday afternoon doing line-up and running scripts.

They do, though, tend to have a heavier load during Galli than at other conventions; Galli uses main tech a lot more throughout the day than just about any other LA convention.

(that... is the scariest icon I've seen in quite a while, btw)

Well, I know I *want* to enter, if I can - but it's going to be a while before I know if I have the money and the inspiration.

I'm a bit tentative about Mercy Hartigan - and not only because of the cost. I'm a bit stumped as to a solid presentation for her - maybe if I had a Jackson Lake to go on stage with, too.

Failing Hartigan, none of the ideas *currently* rolling around in my nogging are stage-worthy. But I've time, yet, I suppose! ;)

If I did another doctor (short of Eleven depending - and my progress on my own Two and Ten costumes) it would be the Morrisey-Jackson lake- but dear lord if i thought finding the Four Vest or Eight vest fabric was hard trying to find the cravat/vest and the *coat* fabrics for that costume will be a nightmare... but if I happen to luck out... you never know - I'll let you know if I do.

Sure thing!

The chances of my doing Mercy are *very* up in the air, as I don't have $250 lying around for materials. Things *might* ease up, income-wise, in a couple of months, but not before then. So I doubt I'll *know* before SDCC if the costume will be managed.

Due to the presence of McGann and bummage over my last-minute cancellation to Meet Tom Baker at TimeQuest I'm thinking of making the push to Attend C*T this year. Not sure if I'll do the masque. If I did seems a great to officially enter the Cyberman costume in something but I *Do* need help getting into that thing so that would be something to consider. I've have to cosplay Eight if for a bit to get a picture with Mr. McGann in it! Though I'm sure he'll tell me the coat is the wrong color or something (smiles and grr's around for Eight cosplayers). And of course my tristy Four. But I may try and finally get my Voc Robot moving along too... who knows...
