Eeeeee!

The emergency costume is done! There is no way in hell the prop to go with it will fit in my luggage so, oh well. I'll just have to hope that people will get it without that visual cue. There's no way I can fake it, once I'm on site, alas...

The second attempt for a bit for Crafty TARDIS came out somewhat better. Still not great, but good enough for a show-and-tell/proof of concept and a what the hell did I do wrong? session.

I really hope the TSA guys at SFO don't freak over a) my UNIT jacket (being worn for warmth on the plane and to save room in the suitcase) and b) the sonic screwdriver in my carry-on. Granted, the TSA dudes didn't care that I had said sonic screwdriver and six fountain pens in my carry-on, last time. Maybe I'm a sick sort of person, but I can easily envision the potential damage that could be caused by same... But it's the Thanksgiving holiday and I'm assuming the TSA staff have been bullied into high-paranoia mode by their bosses, so I'm striving to make things as easy as possible - for me.

Now, if I could just find my goddamn tie for the Femmy 10 costume, I'd be all set!

I happened to catch the Confidential for Time Crash.

Seven minutes of pure fanboy goodness, all 'round. It's always nice to see the cast and crew (apparently) having as much fun making the show as us cheerful fannish types get from watching it. David Tennant's remark about how his eleven-year-old self would react to seeing the special ("He'd melt.") elicited a particularly noisy squee of delight, go figure.

It's been a bit of a high-squee day, what with my last minute prep for my trip and stuff. I should probably cut myself off from any more stimuli, but I think it's too late...

It was quite interesting to hear how they put Peter Davison's costume together - lots of borrowing from the exhibit at Blackpool, I noticed. And the prop celery later sold for something close to $11,000. Yow! One hopes the Beeb is giving the dosh to Children in Need.

Despite not having any sort of presentation prepared (no, I will not stay up half the night trying to create one. Besides, I've un-installed all of my audio-editing software), I'm thinking about maaaaaybe participating in the masquerade on Saturday night. Y'know, just a turn across the stage with Femmy 10.

Maybe.

Perhaps.

After a drink or two.

No singing, though, I promise. (that's to reassure at least one person who's going to be there, btw)

PS - couldn't find my favorite tie for the costume, so I bought another one. It's a rather nice tie, dark blue silk with a pattern in a similar-toned-but-contrasting thread. If you look at it very closely, you'll notice that it's a holiday-themed tie. But tastefully so. Hee!

Oh, this is fun!

A person on my f-list1 is watching Blakes 7 for the very first time. She's started posting her reactions to the early episodes, her thoughts about the characters, hopes for ditto and all that, and it's magic. I'm trying really hard not to jump all over her journal with "OMG! You're going to love it when this happens, but watch out for when that occurs and... and..." and be, probably, quite annoying.

Well, okay, I went a little bit crazy in her vicinity, but not too much, I hope.

Anyways, I'm quite keen to hear the reaction of a first-timer who'o already seen a lot of what came after B7 (not a little of it inspired by that show, consciously or otherwise2) and, of course, thirty years after it first hit the airwaves3. There was a lot to B7 that was quite ground-breaking at the time, but I suppose now it's going to come across as laughably dated - and derivative, too in the way that D&D players think that Tolkien was derivative of Gary Gygax - I've seen it happen. So, yeah, I'm wondering what her reaction will be, to various aspects - from the handling of female characters, to the occasional bouts of moral ambiguity and, of course, spaceships that are clearly made from detergent bottles with sparklers stuck on the back.

It should be interesting to compare her thoughts to my long-held notions, y'know? A bit of a refresher course, in it's way - I hope.

(and, er, if you're reading this, oh aforementioned LJer... no pressure. Really! Just keep blogging, 'kay?)

1 - who shall remain nameless as they might not approve of my talking about their TV habits on my journal
