Foolish brain-noodlings re: the Time Agency continue. I dunno if I'm actually going to do anything with 'em beyond scrawl it all down in my journal, but it might be useful one day, I suppose, under some strange set of circumstances.

I love my fellow fans, really I do, but sometimes I wonder if they have the slightest clue how conventions are run. Yes, I just read something particularly eye-rolling on one of my convention mailing lists. Suffice it to say that some attendees seem to have no idea of the factors that go into determining a guest list - including lead-time. Sigh.

Speaking of cons, I think the odds of my making it to San Diego ComicCon are rapidly evaporating. It's a shame but *shrug* priorities. Even on the cheap, cons cost a lot. I'm still hoping to get Alex down there, though, as someone has already bought him a membership.

At this point, I'm not sure I'm going to make BayCon, and that's a local even with an offer of free crash space. I just don't know if I can find the energy, as well as the scratch for even the cheapest of incidentals. Feeling very *blah* about the whole thing, honestly.

I'm still bound and determined to make Chicago TARDIS, though. I've put my downpayment on my itcostHOWmuch? registration (worth every penny) and, as mentioned elsewhere, must now start sewing to raise the dosh for, er, everything else. Approximately six corsets should do it - eight if I want to make Mercy Hartigan for the event. Expect a few blatantly self-promotional posts - more so than usual - in the next few months.

Had a serious *wibble* re: the latest Doctor Who broadcasts and caught myself longingly eyeballing the torrents, the other day. How long 'til the US air-date, again?

However, this reminds me that I've got S3x1 of the BBC7 Eight/Lucie stories still awaiting a listen. That'll be a treat after I've done chores this weekend, and given how badly the bathtub needs scrubbing, I'll have earned it!

Have I mentioned recently how glad I am that BFA offers a purchase-and-download option, now?

lord it's to long to the us air date, why don't you download it and then watch againg when it airs here?I'm awful but that's what I do, I can find you an easy megaupload link if you don't like torrents. (we are talking about Planet of the Dead right?)

(edit: too lazy to switch back into the fannish skin...)

I have a personal policy: I don't steal content.

Er, anymore. I'm a reformed case, me.

(well, I don't steal content until it airs in the USA, that is - 'cos I want to see the FULL programme, not BBCA's chopped-to-ribbons version)

This is complete and total rationalization, but I figure that since I buy the DVD the day it's released in the US, I'm not "stealing" so much as "advance viewing." I also never, ever download anything that comes from the US or runs first here. I buy them on iTunes in that case.

And yet, I'm against piracy. I guess I just don't see it as piracy when I don't keep the stuff, I just DL, watch, delete, and buy the DVD.

I know I'm going to sound like all kinds of fuddy-duddy, but it's a matter of adhering to the law and ensuring that folks get their royalties (and yay to you for buying the DVDs when they come out, too many folks don't)

but, as it stands, watching the damn thing in the US prior to US air date just ain't legal and, well, you know how twitchy I am about things as a non-citizen.

Besides, I've had several writers/production staff folk associated with DW threaten to break my little legs if I ever download again and meeting the guys who are losing the royalties... it made an impression.

My routine is now thus:

- DVR the US broadcast. Let it play while I do the dishes or something. The cable co. gets the viewing feedback (more to the point, the advertisers to, too) but I generally don't watch it, in the active sense.

- Grab the original broadcast version off the internetz, so I can see it WITHOUT being cut to ribbons by BBCA/Sci-Fi.

- Buy the DVD - british or american, depending on the situation.

It's not perfect, but it works for me.

Honestly, I was disappointed in Planet of the Dead. It might be worth watching if it's on TV, but it's not worth the effort to download.

I hope that you can make it to Baycon. I'm cutting expenses here and trying to find a way to attend as well. I think I have the weekend off, but I still have to figure out if I can afford it.

I won't be down there before late Fri night, either way. *gloom*...
