Holy cow! Forget the robots, I want to re-create the miners' gear!
I've not seen the story in at least 20 years, so I'm not surprised that I'd forgotten about the sheer fabulousness of the design. Even the little things, like the makeup on the humans mimicking the painted pattern on the robots' faces (or vice versa). Utterly awesome.
The story's great, of course. I'm going to re-read Corpse Marker tomorrow. Re-listening to the Kaldor City audios is, of course, inevitable.

Date: 2009-05-03 03:09 pm (UTC)Today, I'm going to try to convince my husband to watch it with me. He's not nearly as keen on Who as I am, but I think he'd really like "Robots of Death"
And, okay, I want to watch it again. :)
I can't wait to see what the restoration team does with it, although I hear that I have at least a year to wait, alas!

Still, I get the impression the designers had a LOT of fun with that story. :)

Date: 2009-05-13 03:12 am (UTC)I've read "Corpse Marker" by Chris Boucher (big surprise) and rather liked it, although from what I've gleaned of reviews, it helps if you're pretty-damn-familiar with "Robots of Death" as it doesn't spend much time giving you context and it's a direct sequel to that story.
"Match of the Day" was v. amusing as it's one of the few times Leela can legitimately be frightfully bloodthirsty.
Looking at his bibliography, I see I've also read "Psi-ence Fiction" which was alright - not particularly sterling, but not "I want those three hours of my life back", either.
I've not read "Last Man Running", another Four-and-Leela romp - I'm seeing a trend here with Boucher's preferred characters. ;)
