This is all [livejournal.com profile] mrboy's fault, by the way...

What could a gaggle of female SF fans bring to a podcast that a) hasn't been done to death already and b) would be of interest to a random slice of the SF-podcast-listenin' public?

I know there's potentially a lot, but it's difficult to articulate.

This is just a bit of harmless speculation, of course.

Oo, interesting question!

The first answer that comes to mind is "slash", but last time I looked on iTunes there was already at least one slashcast.

I think something between "squee" and "LOL" (not nearly enough LOL on podcasts; that's something DWNY has been trying to remedy with its sillinesses) would be appropriate.

I think that 45 minutes of LOL-cast would get a bit much, after a while - say the tenth minute.

A smaller squee-segment, however, might work. :)

"Harmless Speculation".

Huh. Riiiiiiight.

Well, obviously being the perv I am, something corset-salacious comes to mind... but in reality - I got nothing...

Except Classic Trek uniforms filled with undead zombies (like there are any other kind) coming for Kirk, who sent them all to their DOOM!

Red Shirt == Cannon Fodder

Kinda hard to do be-corsetted salaciousness via a podcast, doncha think? ;)

Did I say I'd be giving you an EASY assignment?

You could always do a chorus of the theme from "Secret Agent Man" ala karaoke

I listen to a lot of podcasts. A lot. I have a long, long ass commute. I had a point...oh here it is...most of the podcasts I listen to have guy hosts. Which is fine, it's just very refreshing to hear a woman's perspective on geek-culture podcasts as well. It takes me out of "my mom's basement" and into the "living room". Just sayin.

Oh I co-host a podcast too (more dudes talking about games): http://www.narrativecontrol.com/

Just record the Friday night drinks session.

Believe me, that crossed my mind. There's a lot of background noise, though.

The temptation to just set up Espana and Leigh-Ann with a pitcher of sangria and a recording device and then say "The Hugos! Go!" and record the results is pretty damn tempting... :)

Women fen have a different viewpoint then men on everything related to SF. If nothing else, it would scare men poopless to think that other people see X in a manner completely unlike how they see the same X.

...well, if we scare them in a GOOD way, I see that as an upside, honestly.

You DO realize that you're on the list of contributors that I'd solicit, right? ;)

Oh, I think that any male who is scared by that doesn't deserve the title of "Man".

PEOPLE have vastly different viewpoints on everything related to SF (and everything else); what was that Trek drek cliche? Infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and all that?

We're not all closed-minded little shytes, y'know... but Sturgeon's Law does apply equally to people of both sexes:

98% of everything is crap.

Whilst I cheerfully agree with - and often cite - Sturgeon's Law, I'd like to remind everyone here that we're all pals together, so let's not any of us get too het up about who killed who cliche and perception, okay?

Just sayin'. We're all pals together, right? Right.

Actually, it's only 90% of everything, not 98. Unless there's inflation on the Law, which I somehow missed....

*laughs at self* 90% of all quotations contain errors - including my own?

I guess I'm more cynical than Sturgeon... who knew?
