Major spoilers follow, of course

Given the ooh! Tosh girl-on-girl action squeeing that's been building up all week, I hope to Christ this doesn't suck as much as I fear it could.

I've been at Dickens Fair all day. Is it unfair of me to be sneering at the costuming in the flashback? I've been seeing some excellent 19th century costuming all day, you see...

Surely Do whores pray? would have been the better line? Yeah, yeah, I'm being nitpicky, but we all know how I feel about clunky dialog.

Wow, Gwen and Owen don't get the idea of keeping it subtle, huh? Ah well.

...and Tosh's ideas of confidentiality go out the window at the chance of sympathetic company. Not surprising, really, as she's so bloody lonely, and clearly being played. I've been feeling sorry for Tosh for quite a while.

Totally love Tosh's first reaction to the telepathy-pendant. Yay for acting chops!

Nice, chilly greeting there, Ianto. I still think he's brewing something seriously horrible in his noggin. Let's find out! *wince* Oh boy. Poor Ianto. Current leader in the Who's Going To Go Crazy Next office sweepstakes...

I don't know if the editor is brilliant or a shithead... All that jumpcutting. Trendy, and only sometimes justified, y'know? But I optimistic that it'll gel, shortly.

Philoctetes? Did we just wander into Buffyland? Again?

Tosh in the shopping center is quite good - I like how they're doing the VOs. Okay, so maybe the editing's justified. It's fitting pretty well, now that I'm getting used to it.

Drat, I shouldn't like the teasing of Owen as much as I am. Fodder for the GwOwen faction, obviously.

*squee* UNIT and an HMG reference! UNIT-fangrrl is happy.

Meanwhile Mary/Philoctetes proves to be as subtle as a tub of lard. But then Tosh probably isn't thinking straight (ahem) at this point. See "poor Tosh", above.

1) What are those buttons on Owen's lab coat?
2) Hearing Owen's Welsh accent come out of remission during this bit of dialog, just in occasional words, is adorable and I don't know why. Damn you, Owen Bloody Harper.

Meanwhile, the line I think my desk is on fire has special meaning for me and makes me laugh myself sick.

...oho. Tosh isn't hearing a thing from Jack. Neat, but not all that surprising.

Oh. Oh my. Sly-faced Jack is another aspect that makes me weak at the knees. The progression of his expression - from suspicious to angry to ohshitbecasual when Tosh is clearly trying to rummage in his head... Hmm... more fodder for rpg!Jack there, methinks. And, I should add, a checkmark in the Yes, Barrowman can do some things subtly column, which has been looking a bit bereft of late.

Yep, we're definitely in Sunnydale this week. Nice f/x on Mary, though.

...and Jack has had not much better to do so far than pose occasionally and be a pointed parallel (fodder for rpg!Jack). As long as he's not driving the Deus Ex Machina taxi again...

I like the chaos/overlayering of the characters' voices during the climactic scene in the Hub. Nicely done, adds to the tension of the scene - certainly more so that Ms. Mary chewing on the scenery over there.

Jack's figured out telepathy at some point. So not a surprise. (Alas, more fodder for the Jack as Marty Stu argument)

Finally commented on Jack's so-brilliant teeth. Dumb, but funny.

Pls shoot whoever did the heavy-handed scoring. Kthxbye.

I love that little twist of the knife by Tosh at the fountain "...like you were dead." And, of course, one must wonder who's brains Jack might have been rummaging in over the past, say, two months or so. I really hope that such a notion occurs to Tosh and it's followed up...

Please, please, please, no homily at the fountain *holds breath* Noooo!

Well, it could have been worse, I suppose. Would it have killed you to give Tosh a hug, Jack? Hang on, I phrased that badly...

Poor Tosh. Lonely and broken hearted, now. *sigh*

Overall, better than I expected. I'll give it an initial 7.5 out of 10. A final rating will follow when I've thought more on it and written a more coherent review.

Oh I see, as well as Tosh/Mary action you now want Tosh/Jack? lol However you're right - was better than some we've had - partly down to the character development.

There were some pop culture references in it though it could've been hard to understand from outside the UK. For example Amanda Burton played a police pathologist in Silent Witness which was popular on British TV although the Quincy reference would obviously be easy for any American to understand.

But I'm glad there was a story about Tosh and the body count was less than last week's episode too.

A hug, laddo. Just a simple, reassuring, "Hey, I can remember to do the nice comforting thing that functional human beings occasionally do" hug.

Besides, everyone knows that it's Tosh/Ianto OTP 4evah. *ducks*

Jack doesn't do hugs - not since he died. :P He's more the gung ho sort - not the touchy feely Teletubbies "group hug" sort.

And he's not a totally functional human being either. Human beings die - Jack doesn't.

Tosh/Ianto eh, hmm, *picture it*, somehow it would be a little awkward. Mind you Ianto could do with a bit of a romantic interest - to take his mind off blends of coffee and stop doing the brooding he's been doing after Cybergirlfriend got taken care of.

I didn't say Jack was a functional human being. I suggested that it wouldn't (ahem) kill him to remember to emulate one on occasion - y'know, rather than being human vicariously through Gwen and whoever else.

And the Tosh/Ianto remark was mostly facetious, luv. :)

I would give it an 8 out of 10, cause I would have probably sped through Tosh-sex sequence if I hadn't been subjecting Obi-Juan to Torchwood again. LOL.

It was better than I expected also, and much better than Countrycide.

I was so tired watching this last night, that I couldn't tell if it was good or not...
I think it probably was very good for the most part, but am going to have to watch it again before I can do any kind of crit. This had some terrific lines though (yeah the Gwen/Owen stuff gave me a big happy because so much of it was their VO rather than cutesy exposition), Tosh was superb, and oh lord yes, the part where she tries to rummage in Jack's brain and he realises... wow... more acting like that and maybe he can carry the series after all.
I loved the UNIT reference too, and hoping that I can keep the plot bunnies at bay a little longer...
But I am so very very tired still, that it may take days for me to achieve coherent thought about this one.

Indeed!

Catch the Weds repeat and your faithful fans will await your thoughts. :)

I had a few more thoughts overnight, but nothing that can't wait until I have time to jot them down (alas, not at work for it will be HELL DAY as usual) and the same goes for the gorram HUGE plot bunny that hopped into my head late last night with a pretty good suggestion as to how the follow up to the Jack/Ianto shouting match could go...

It's days like this I wish I had a functional PDA with a keyboard. I could do a lot on my commute. :)

Well I videoed it (how old skool) so watching it again isn't a problem...

Three words "pen and paper" - where do you think I get the time to do all my writing? 50 minutes in the morning, 1 hr 20 in the afternoon, and then I type it up when I can which also allows me to edit as I go along...
*grin*

Two words: terrible handwriting.

My legible-writing speed is comparable to - or possibly slower than - my legible-typing speed, especially on the train. So, given my druthers, I'd rather type than write.

That's not to say I didn't scrawl out a page and a half of chickenscratch this morning, just so I don't have to use precious braincells to remember the nubbins until I get home. But I'd get more done if I typed. :)

Well I hate to say it, but "A Little Less Conversation" is persistently in my head, not helped by my visions of Ianto dressing like Elvis in the 68 Comeback special....

I'm going to have to write this aren't I, not least because it will satisfy all those Jack/Ianto shippers who wonder why it's always Jack who takes charge....

I ain't helping you on this one. I'm not a big fan of Elvis, to tell the truth.

However, I don't know *where* the Jack/Ianto shippers get the idea of Jack being in charge cos I, personally, have the notion as Jack bottoming to Ianto very, very much stuck in my head. I suppose I might have bought a bit too much into the whole control-freaks-make-the-best-subs, thing, but I've enough personal experience to make it the most plausible scenario, imho. Besides, it's freakin' hawt.

Okay, maybe that was TMI, but I had to get that out of my system before knuckling down to work today... ;)

*LOL*

No need to be embarassed around here, luv. It's a point I pretty much had beaten into me - literally. ;)

Hell, it wasn't until I engaged in a d/s ummfriendship with a pal that I came to realize that I really *am* a huge control freak. 32 years of denial went out the window. ;)

Remember Jack and Rose and the "psychic paper" contest when they first met?

I don't think that the telepathy thing is "Marty Stu." Jack could recognize that his mind was being probed (51st century, after all), but I think he had to make a serious effort to make his thoughts even register with the pendant.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that he's the anti-Mary-Sue in the end, and the cost of all his world-saving abilities has been insane.

I was just being a wee bit sarcastic with the Marty Stu comment. The internets robs me of nuance again!
