For the hell of it, I made a bid at the theoretical max I could get away with, divided by two in the interest of not having my husband leave me over the credit card bill and was immediately creamed by the first bidder whom, I'm sure, has a ridiculously high bid.

I seriously considered going up to 100 Pounds for it, as it's the sorta squeeish thing I love (I like scripts. Big surprise) but, as I said, dropping the best part of $200 on such a thing would almost certainly lead to marital discord at the House of Fangrrl.

Unless, of course, I got my hands on a similar item off the set of BSG for the spouse. ;)

Isn't it best with ebay auctions to wait until the final minutes and then bid though? If you put in an initial bid of £50 like you did, other people know it's worth £50 to you, so it gets competitive. Anyway - it was a nice find. Got any plans as to when you'll be over here for a holiday (and/or work)? Are you still applying for BBC jobs (eg John Barrowman's assistant ;) )?

I've stepped back from Beeb jobs for now. Alex really wants me to get US citizenship taken care of first, and jobhunting in Europe (which they could potentially discover during the final background check) could mess that up. Moreover by the end of March I'll know what my separation date - if any - will be from the Bank. It's probably not going to be until August, so I've a fair whack of time to prep.

As for the auction, I'm fairly certain it's going to go far beyond my means, anyways. The bid was just for the sheer fun of it - like playing the lottery. ;)

Yes, true. I can understand Alex wanting you to finish the process. If my knowledge of how US government departments regarding background checks is anything to go by - something like jobhunting abroad would be below their radar (unless it's specifically asked on a form). They know you're British - they know you have ties to this country already. However as you point out it's always best to err on the side of caution. Bureaucracies can be pains in the neck when they don't have a clue or make an error/bad decision. The INS operates really without much scrutiny because the people it deal with can't vote. As they can't vote, politicians don't have to listen to them. :P I think I've mentioned that before but there are similar problems with the IND (Immigration & Nationality Directorate) of the Home Office over here (a £multi-billion organisation last time I checked that couldn't talk it's way out of a paper bag).

Regarding the bank, at least you have a better relationship with the bank than most people. Most people get screwed over by their banks through unfair (sometimes illegal) charges. ;)

Yeah well I'll see how the auction goes, if the initial bids are an indicator it'll go for around the £200 mark from some wealthy Torchwood fan.

Sorry meant to put USCIS not INS earlier. Seems they changed their name in '03. They're starting to sound like these companies that change them every 12 months after a bit of bad PR. I should move with the times! :)
