It's more of a mini-ficlet than a plotbunny, but I figure that if any of you want to run with it, please do. And, yes, I know exactly what's to blame for this.

A familiar, delicious, smell permeated the air, and Owen realized that Ianto had, with his usual discretion, somehow rustled up a bag of fresh popcorn - real popcorn - without disturbing the scene that was unfolding in the Hub's main work area. Owen took a handful and passed the bag to Gwen, who also leaned on the railing overlooking the Hub.

"Did I miss anything?" Ianto whispered.

"Yeah," Owen whispered back. "The first half of Night and Day."

"Really?" Ianto looked sulky. "I love Cole Porter."

Owen rolled his eyes. "You are so gay."

"Shut up, you two." Gwen hissed.

Meanwhile, Jack and Toshiko sang and occasionally danced, using the Hub's desks, stairwells and the occasional well-time swoop by Myfanwy (particularly effective during a medley of South Pacific) as their set.

"How long's it been now?" Owen asked.

"Half an hour." Gwen murmured. "I didn't even know they could sing."

"Well, of course he can." Owen scoffed.

"I'd call you a prick, Owen, but then I'd have to..." Gwen's voice trailed off, apparently entranced by a deft segue into It Had To Be You.

Owen backed off from the incipient spat. "How the hell can you dip someone like that and not drop them?"

"Practice?" Ianto suggested, deadpan.

"We should probably do something." Gwen said without much conviction and reaching for the popcorn again. The other two nodded and muttered agreement.

"I mean, obviously that thing's harmless," she gestured towards the rift's most recent offering. Not quite as large as a baseball, the purple and silver orb emitted a cheerful glow somewhat brighter than might be expected from an object of that size. Apparently Tosh had been the first person to examine it, with Jack peering over her shoulder and... the next thing the team knew, the pair started singing. A lot. And surprisingly well.

Owen tried to tear his attention away from the scene. "Maybe it... I dunno, brings out your inner musician or something. Didn't we get a report about something like this in California a couple of years ago?"

Ianto shook his head. "I don't think so. That involved a pendant of some sort and... spontaneous combustion."

That snapped Gwen out of her reverie. "Then we should definitely put a stop to this! Just in case."

"Alright, alright!" Owen retreated from her vehemence. "Just let 'em finish this one, first. I loved Miss Saigon..."

"And you call me gay?"

Dayum.

Meanwhile, I just started listening to John Barrowman covering "Don't Fence Me In" and I think I've burst a blood vessel trying to keep the mad giggles inside (I'm at work)

Oh, I've never heard "Don't Fence Me In" -- it any good? Mad giggles at work, never a good idea! I was listening to JB on my mp3 player the other week in English and he suddenly sang "our love affair was too hot not to cool down" in a very sexy voice and I swear I squeed in the middle of my English lesson. He really does have a terrible effect on us fangirls!

It's on the "Swinging Cole Porter" album. I actually bought the darn track, rather than acquiring it via other *ahem* means. It's amusingly silly, as most of the tracks on that album seem to be. I'll probably cave and buy the rest of it (or at least a few more tracks) tonight.

Which song is the line you quote from? I'm really terribly unhip/uneducated when it comes to music.

Why is it always the queer-as-nine-bob-notes (and married, to boot) actors that do it to us fangrrls? I probably wouldn't be nearly as mad about the guy if he was even remotely available... :)

The song's called "Just One Of Those Things", but I'm not sure what it's from. The "Swinging Cole Porter" album sounds quite good -- I'm tempted to make somebody buy it for me for Christmas. But I'm even more tempted to make someone buy me that film John's in where, is Cole Porter?, is teaching him to sing. De-Lovely, I think it's called. <3

And I know, it's terribly unfair -- all my current loves are gay and/or married. *sulks* It's just not fair!

*nod* Delovely is it, indeed. I bought it a couple of months ago and still haven't gotten around to watching it, dammit.

Still, more of an incentive, now. :)

Oh, watch it! I finally did last night, and while John's only in it for a bit, it's well worth it. VERY hot.

I watched that particular scene a couple of days ago - *then* I went back to the beginning - it was a rather nice scene, wasn't it?

Thinking of hawt John Barrowman, you might want to check out a recent entry (http://fangrrl-squees.livejournal.com/36784.html) for an entirely frivolous pic of same. :)
