Planning WAY in Advance
Mar. 21st, 2007 10:16 amNo reason for the icon choice, I just haven't used it lately. Although the migraine in my head is definitely make me feel a bit gothy as I desperately swig at my (caffeinated, for a change) coffee.
So, as those of you who are on the proper filters for my non-fannish journal know, barring a disaster that doesn't bear contemplating, I'm going to be in the UK near the end of this year. Providing that I get my redundancy on the timeline I've been given, I would be arriving in the UK no earlier than October 15th, and it might be closer to November 1st. I want my severance payment to clear before I head out to the airport, you see...
As I say, exact dates are TBD, but I have decided that I absolutely and utterly will be spending 48 hours (at least) in Cardiff doing a combination fangrrl-visit and general Welshophilia1 tour. Cardiff will either be preceded or followed by a trip up to Bangor and Caernafon Castle, budget permitting. *squee*
The Welshophilia bit includes a visit to the (relatively) nearby St. Fagan's museum, and to the Big Pit (aka the National Coal Museum) and whatever else captures my attention before I get on the plane.
(Getting tight and going dragon-spotting will, btw, be de-rigeur, methinks)
The fangrrl aspect of the visit involves grabbing that marked-up Google Earth map of Cardiff I've heard about, hiking/busing around the city and generally goggling at various landmarks from Doctor Who and Torchwood. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to go to Cardiff again so I'll by-God wallow in it. Drinks at one of the foyer bars at the Millenium Center are planned, and will possibly precede the aforementioned dragon-spotting excursion. First person to fall into the bay wins a prize.
However.
Hotels aren't cheap and, blimey, the exchange rate is murder. Given a tentative date of late October/early November, and the probability that this trip will fall in the middle of a week (rather than a convenient weekend) would any of you darling fantypes be interested in splitting the cost of a hotel room for 1 or 2 nights?
I know, I know, it's very early to start making inquiries, but knowing whether or not I've got a travel-buddy will impact how long I stay in the town - unless slogging in via train from my aunty's will cost more that the local Econolodge, which is a distinct possiblity...
Anyways, point is, I'm issuing the heads-up now, for anyone lurking in these environs. I'll trawl the Torchwood/DW squee-friendly communities later in the year, but I'd much rather do this sort of thing with someone I "know".
1 - I'm sure that isn't a word, but it's the best I could think of.

Date: 2007-03-21 09:30 pm (UTC)B&Bs are looking like a more affordable option, though - about half the price of hotels in the vicinity and it's not like I need the ameneties a hotel offers...

Date: 2007-04-18 01:25 pm (UTC)However, it's probable that one of my south coast friends might join me for one evening in Cardiff, so that's something - again, nothing definite.
Once I'm more certain about the trip's future (that'll be in late June, probably) I'll ramp up the hunt and try a little harder. :)

Date: 2007-04-18 08:13 pm (UTC)Forsooth, I'll cheerfully accept any and all fangirlish company in Cardiff. Much squee'ing will be had and, as I say, first person to fall into the bay by the millenium centre wins a prize. ;)
