More audio PMG goodness! BBC Radio 7 to broadcast six new Eighth Doctor stories. And it's not just a re-broadcast of previously published Big Finish stuff - although it looks like BF is producing 'em, and that's fine by me, forsooth.

And Nigel Havers as a guest star? My cup runneth over!

Then again, I've come to the conclusion that I'd listen to Paul McGann read the phonebook so perhaps I'm easily satisfied.

Apropos of nothing, my current fave Big Finishes - and they're not all Eight!

1. The Natural History of Fear - the weirdest Doctor Who story ever, in that the Doctor, Charley and C'rizz are barely in it, but the actors play multiple other parts in a deceptively complex dystopian story, which requires multiple listenings to really pick up all the layers. Far and away my fave, so far.

2. Caerdroia - The story's a bit confusing if you haven't kept up with the Divergent Universe setting, but I enjoyed it even when I had NO CLUE what the Divergent thing was about. The setting is crazed and engaging and, in it's way a nod to where the DU really began - in "Neverland". The notion of the Doctor being split into three different versions of himself? Fab! My fave moments: "Tigger's my favorite!" and "You know who I am? I'm the nasty one." .

3. Scherzo - PMG and India Fischer and nothing else, unless you count the sound effects dept. The story's strong (it has to be!), and the actors' performance brings it home. Plus there's a fair bit of emo-angsting going on, and we all know how much I like that.

4. Colditz - A Seven story in which I don't want to throttle either The Doctor or Ace. Miracle! The cod-German accents are unintentionally hilarious, and there's an added WTF factor as David Tennant plays one of said cod-Germans. However, the story is good mix of historical and SF, and the whole thing comes across as a well-meant homage to the entire genre of WWII escape films.

5. Davros - If this had gone a shade further than it did, it would have collapsed into farce. Terry Malloy does an excellent job as Davros, and with a full range, to boot - he doesn't just rant for 90 minutes. Colin Baker counters him perfectly, matching egomania with bombast, but flourishing the necessary humanity. Together, the characters feed off each other and skirt the edge of camp at some points but only occasionally and never too much. All in all, they come across as well matched - and well aware of each other's weaknesses. The flashback bits featuring Davros when he was still "human" were an additional bonus.

I want Colditz! Stalags and Seven and Ace? I lust after it. I'm going to look for it on line when I get home.

Found it! At first it didn't appear in Big Finish's product list but I googled the site, found it, and ordered it. :-)
