Right then, I've just finished watching Smith and Jones and the accompanying Confidential.

Spoilers within )

Having just watched three eps of Torchwood in one fell swoop, and ingested two large glasses of wine - and being up past my bedtime - here are my initial and extremely superficial reactions to Combat, Captain Jack Harkness and End of Days

Of course there's a cut tag - spoilers )

More when I'm fully sober and uncranky - so, not before the weekend, in all probability.

This certainly puts a wrench in how I've been playing/will play rpg!Jack. *Scritches head*. I might shut down the Torchwood Diary continuity - or limit it to backdated entries only - until next season. Meh, plenty of time to make up my mind.

Big Fat Spoilers Ahead )

I really enjoyed this one. 8.5 out of 10. I'd give it 9, but I didn't care for the montage at the end. It's better than a homily, but still a bit irritating.

Granted that it was yet-another not much to do with the original premise of the show eps, and suffered a serious shortage of Tosh, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Greeks Bearing Gifts - Reactions Scrawled Whilst I Watched the Episode )

Overall, better than I expected. I'll give it an initial 7.5 out of 10. A final rating will follow when I've thought more on it and written a more coherent review.

Countrycide - typed as I watched. Major spoilers )

Overall, It'd give that 8.5 out of a possible 10, which I think makes it my most highly rated this season.

Most serious quibble: still kinda short on the readying Earth for/protecting Earth from alien menaces bit but, meh, I can deal with that.

Directed by Andy Goddard, hm? Excellent job, fella. Maybe a lot of Cyberwoman's clanginess (*groan*) can be laid at Strong's door, although I maintain my opinion that the dialogue in that one reeked.

Well, thank god, it was better than Cyberwoman. Spoilers Follow. )

On another note entirely, have you seen my shameless plug re: Eight's pocket watch?

Well, drat.

Some rummaging around in the press release archive over at gallifreyone.net has blown my carefully-crafted coping mechanism re: the quality of Cyberwoman. It was no earlier than fifth on the production schedule, as the first four eps shot were Day One, Everything Changes, Ghost Machine and Greeks Bearing Gifts (eps 1, 2, 3 and 8, respectively).

And just to rub salt in the wound, Cyberwoman was directed by James Strong, who I thought did pretty darn well with The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit - although I thought some bits of TSP in particular were a bit overblown, I must admit, if nowhere near as heavy as what I watched last night.

*muttergrumble*

Strong is apparently directing at least two eps this season, and if the other one's a clanger, too, I'll be inclined to consider TIP a fluke. Ah well.

Mental note: never buy CD-Rs on special at Fry's. I've had four out of six disks turn out to be defective. I wish I had the receipt, as I'd return the things but, oh well, I'm only out about $10.

Never mind my woes: Torchwood Thoughts - Spoilers )

And, thank god, now I can go read all of my friends' thoughts on the show, too. Whew.

EDIT: And I knew it wouldn't last. I caved and bought myself a couple months' worth of paid subscription. If I keep using the journal, I'll keep it up. The ads just got to me...
